Dear Friends:
After a public outcry, the Archdiocese backed off of that plan. But now they have signed a letter of intent to sell St. Brigid to the Academy of Art University. Apparently in preparation for that sale, two weeks ago they began removing sculpture and fixtures from the interior without a permit from the city. The Building Department stopped and cited them for doing work without a permit. The interior of the church (and the fixtures and art work the Archdiocese was trying to remove) are covered by the landmark application which the City’s Planning Commission will consider this Thursday. The work of the city’s Planning and Building Departments are all that stand between St. Brigid’s interior and a sledgehammer. If you can attend the hearing, you will show the Commission that the public cares about St. Brigid. They will be interested to hear your testimony if you wish. The Planning Commission hearing starts at 1:30 p.m. in room 400, City Hall. St. Brigid is item 21, and will probably be heard at about 4 p.m. For more information call (415) 364-1511 or go to http://www.st-brigid.org/. Thanks Joe Dignan
