The appeal letter from
ITALIAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION
Branch No. 243 at St. Brigid's Church

December 27, 1993

The Most Reverend John Quinn
Archbishop of San Francisco
445 Church Street
San Francisco, CA. 94114

Dear Archbishop Quinn,

We, the members of the Italian Catholic Federation Branch No. 243, do implore you to stay the closure of St. Brigid's Church and allow this church to remain open to serve it's community. We do hereby attest to it's vibrant and necessary role in the community life.

You are familiar with the ideals and aims of the Italian Catholic Federation. We, the members of Branch No. 243, attempt to maintain and support these ideals. The Branch supports, with devotion, the Church and the community. We are faithful and constant contributors to the Seminary Burse and Spiritual Bouquet which Your Excellency receives each year from the San Francisco District of the Federation. In addition, we, the branch members, support our church and community with donations to the Annual Archdiocesan Appeal, St. Brigid's Elementary School, and various other worthy causes.

St. Brigid's Church is vital to our community. The church must remain open to serve the elementary school students as well as the elderly in the Parish who are not able to take the necessary two buses needed to attend the next nearest church.

The closure of St. Brigid's Church would leave our Italian Catholic Federation Branch without a spiritual base for our religious activities, such as branch masses, retreats, and evenings of recollection. In addition, the branch would not be able to sponsor and host San Francisco District retreats or district quarterly communions.

Your Excellency, we, the undersigned, do support St. Brigid's Church and implore you to allow the church to remain open to serve the Parish. Please do not take away our beautiful, spiritual home.

Respectfully,

G.B.
President,
Branch No. 243, Italian Catholic Federation
