The appeal letter from
LECTORS & EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
ST. BRIGID CHURCH

January 2, 1994

The Most Reverend
John R. Quinn
Archbishop of San Francisco
445 Church Street
San Francisco, CA

Your Excellency:

I am writing this letter on behalf of the Lectors and Eurcharistic Ministers at St. Brigid's Parish in San Francisco. As you are aware, we are two organizations that participate in the Liturgy of the Mass by communicating through the Scripture Readings and by distributing the Sacrament of the Eurcharist.

We are appealing to you to reconsider closing St. Brigid's Church. We believe the closure decision was made in haste and a thorough study of the situation was not completed. The parishoners of St. Brigid's were not made aware of the of the severity of the earthquake reinforcement until after the closing of the parish was announced. A considerable amount of the donated monies to St. Brigid's were given for improvements to the Church. We believe given time, the parish will be able to provide the necessary funds to meet the earthquake code requirements.

St. Brigid's is comprised of a lively, viable community. I have been a member of this Parish for fourteen years and have witness a renewal of the Christian Spirit in the Parishoners. There is a strong community feeling at St. Brigid's that is spreading the work of the Lord throughout the parish.

I respectfully ask you to reconsider your commissions recommendation to close St. Brigid's Church and listen to the parish. I appreciate your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

W.T.Q.
